Macomb County Public Safety Building

New Public Safety Facility

The challenge

Macomb County was in need of a new Public Safety Building and the Fire Station and Sherriff Office Substation both needed to stay operational throughout construction while also maintaining access to the adjacent Community Center.

This resulted in phasing the construction; new apparatus bays went up first, followed by the demolition of the remaining Fire Station.

The goals

Working closely with AEW as their consultant, Wakely set out to assist in the design and construction documents for the new Macomb County Public Safety Building. The main goal was to keep the Fire Station and Sherrif's Substation Office operational during construction.

A modified Italianate architectural design aesthetic reflects a modernity that has its foundation in tradition. Technical masonry design along with detailed archways give a nod to industrial architectural structures in the region while the use of metal seamed roofing and expansive glazing push the building towards the future.
